Doha – Qatar

The “Katara Plaza” is Doha’s new luxury commercial hub. Located in the central area of the Katara site, which extends for more than 2 million square meters between the business center of West Bay and the new luxury residential district The Pearl, north of Doha. The mall is in fact part of a vast real estate project launched in 2010, which includes an immense “cultural village” built in recent years, with mosques, an open-air amphitheater, an Italian-style opera house, a theater dramatic art, a concert hall. The Katara plaza bets on technological and architectural innovation. Gonzato Contract for this work of architecture in Victorian style has supplied all the external curtain systems, the parapets and all the external planters.

This picture shows a perspective view of the external arms awnings and basket awnings. Both support systems have been studied and designed to be resistant to sandstorms, typical of Qatar area. Structure is in aluminium and decorative parts are in painted wrought iron with brass elements.

Hood awnings are a particularly elegant solution for protecting windows, balconies and shop windows from sun rays and atmospheric agents. The main feature of these models is the protection on three sides which makes it preferable for south, southwest exposures. The model has been custom made with fixing on customer’s drawing.

At the request of the client, a feasibility study has been requested for a wrought iron door 14 meters high.
Here are the technical drawings of the building that the client then decided to not to build it.
